Oregon store Powell's City of Books have released 'Powell's by Powell's' to capture the exact scent of a book in a bottle.

The £19 perfume aims to replicate the smell of old paper while "invoking a labyrinth of books; secret libraries and ancient scrolls".

The fragrance has proved popular so far as Powell's have already received more than 1,000 orders.

Store owner Emily Powell said: "Powell's by Powell's is a wonderful reminder of one of the many things bibliophiles love about independent bookstores like Powell's, especially at a time when local and independent retailers are taking a sustained hit from Amazon and other giant online retailers."
