A toe-wrestling competition has been staged in China in a bid to stop swimmers from getting cramp.

The event, which featured more than 80 competitors in Chongqing, was created to ensure fewer swimmers experienced painful cramps while they swam.
A spokesperson for the surreal event explained: ''Our visitors always get muscle cramps while swimming, especially in their legs and feet. This always happens when they forget to stretch and warm-up before going in the water.''
Although the competition was staged in China, toe-wrestler is, in fact, reported to have been invented by four drinkers in Staffordshire in the UK.
