Jo Flower said officers asked her and husband Rob to "tone down" their spooky display at their home in Leicestershire.

The police suggested that the officers relented after they discovered that the decorations had been put up for charity.

Flower told officers that the display had been erected for a charitable cause and refused to take it down "on principle".

She adds that the couple had never previously received a complaint about their annual displays.

Flower told BBC News: "I was shocked someone complained. If several people said it was a bit too much, we'd tone it down.

"But no-one round here has a problem, it's the kind of place where people would come and say something to you.

"We're not out to upset anyone, we just wanted to raise some money for charity."
