Wildlife officials in Colorado were called out earlier this week to help the animal after it got the festive lights tied up in its antlers.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region explained that the deer had thrashed in an attempt to remove the lights but had only ended up making the situation worse as the seasonal directions got caught around his face.

The agency said: "This deer's vision was obscured, making it vulnerable around cars. With wires wrapped in its mouth, it likely couldn't eat or drink.

"It might have starved. Had it jumped a fence, the cords might have gotten caught and hung the animal."

The lights were safely removed by officials and the deer was able to return to freedom.
