The unusual pooch was born in North Carolina alongside seven other pups, which came out a normal colour and owner Shana Stamey started ''freaking out'' when her pet Gypsy gave birth to the colourful animal.
She said: ''I started freaking out because it was green. As Gypsy is doing her job getting him cleaned up, he was crying and looked bright neon lime green.''
Experts believe that Gypsy, a German Shepherd, gave birth to the colourful dog as it defecated in her mother's womb and that the bright fur will eventually fade.
Daniella Dos Santos, president of the British Veterinary Association, said: ''The puppy's green hue is likely to have been caused by meconium, a puppy's first faeces which may be passed ahead of birth, or placental pigments.''
