Debbie Campbell said that her pooch Brody vanished last month and she had been unable to find the animal despite searches of the area and social media appeals.

However, she received a phone call from Benjamin Gonzalez - who had purchased a dog matching Brody's description in the Mexican city of Tijuana.

Gonzalez sent Campbell an image of the dog's identifying marks which proved that it was her pet.

She said: "When he video called us to show us the dog, it took my breath away.

"It's a blessing that that man called, because otherwise there's no way we could have gotten him back."

Debbie is unsure about how her dog ended up in Mexico but suspects it was stolen to intentionally be resold.
