The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service explained how Eddie, a 28-year-old male horse, wandered into trees in Ballingdon Hill and got stuck.

The rescuers said that a vet was called to the scene to sedate the horse so the animal remained calm while the branches around it were chopped down.

A fire service spokesman told the East Anglian Daily Times newspaper: "Once the branches were trimmed, the crews used animal rescue equipment to lift the horse out of the gap and to safe ground.

"The horse is safely back on all fours and the vet is staying with the animal until the full effects of the sedation have worn off."
