The Bridgehampton Fire Department explained that crews responded to a home under construction and spent over an hour cutting and removing sections of the vent to remove the feline - which is only a few months old.

Animal officers took the kitten to a local animal shelter and officials have confirmed that it will be available for adoption soon.

Citizens have also been encouraged to look out for animals who may be sheltering during the cold weather.

Cathy Antos, the village of Southampton's supervising town animal control officer, said: "As we proceed into a colder time of the year, it is always possible that animals may seek warmth under decks, in deep window wells, or even in places like a dryer vent as we saw here, to escape the cold."
