Shelly Luther, who owns a salon in Dallas, Texas, defied the law by keeping it open but insisted that she continued working to feed her kids.

Speaking to the judge at her hearing, Shelly said: ''I have to disagree with you sir, when you say that I'm selfish.

''Feeding my kids is not selfish. I have hairstylists that are going hungry because they would rather feed their kids.

''So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision, but I am not going to shut the salon.''

The judge decided to jail Shelly for seven days, to represent the amount of time that she flouted lockdown orders by continuing to work in her salon.
