Officers in Michigan were called out at the weekend to a report of the bird of prey wedged in the front grille of the vehicle and faced a delicate job to make sure the bird was unharmed.

Farmington Public Safety wrote on Facebook: "Officers meticulously extricated the hawk by removing parts of the front of the car without causing injury to the animal or causing more damage to the car."

The department revealed that the hawk is being cared for and is set to make a full recovery.

The post added: "The hawk was then taken to The Animal Emergency Center of Novi where it received outstanding care and is expected to make a full recovery and will be released back to the wild next week."
