The Cape Coral Fire Department said that officers were called out after a family heard meowing coming from under the bonnet of their vehicle and decided to investigate.

The family were able to free one kitten from the engine compartment but required the help of fire crews to remove the second feline.

The fire crew revealed that the family couldn't adopt the kittens and that they will be up for adoption.

The department wrote in a Facebook post: "The family was unable to adopt the kittens since they had already rescued two last year.

"They will be put up for adoption so if anyone is interested in having two kittens who love adventure, joyriding, and firefighters, join their family."
