Zipcar UK have placed the striking installation in Spitalfields Market with the car blooming with more than 500 plants, flowers and herbs such as Cupressus conifer – a natural air purifier.

The car has been designed in partnership with artist Alice McCabe and hopes to inspire drivers to make greener travel choices and cut carbon emissions once lockdown is over.

New research has unveiled that 92 per cent of drivers are concerned about pollution levels caused by traffic with 77 per cent adopting Zipcar to reduce their carbon footprint.

James Taylor, General Manager at Zipcar UK, said: "It took a pandemic for our streets to become noticeably cleaner and greener, and we now have the opportunity to make urban travel more sustainable and not revert back to the old ways of the past."

The Living Car will be parked in Spitalfields Market from the 19th-21st May.
