Adolf Hitler Uunona was elected last week as a councillor for the Ompundjia constituency but insists he has no plans for world domination.

Uunona insists that he has "nothing to do" with Nazi ideology and his name is common in Namibia - a former German colony - although he confessed to being named after Hitler by his father.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said: "As a child I saw it as a totally normal name.

"It wasn't until I was growing up that I realised. This man wanted to subjugate the whole world. I have nothing to do with any of these things."

He adds that he has no plans to change his name despite his new political position.
