Neil Scallan has splashed out thousands to amass the world's biggest collection of Monopoly boards - even though he doesn't even like the game.

Scallan began collecting Monopoly sets in New Zealand back in 2005 and buys different editions each time he goes away. He never opens the sets and is unable to recall the last time he played the board game.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I can't even remember the last time I played Monopoly. I have never opened any of my sets as they then lose 80 per cent of their value."

Scallan added: "In previous years, I'd bring a fridge magnet home to remember the holiday.

"But in New Zealand, I came across a Monopoly board which has all the towns on so I thought that was a great gift for myself.

"Then every trip I went on, I'd bring a set back and family members did the same for me."
