A man was left with a rotting penis after being bitten by a venomous cobra while using the toilet at a safari park.

Cobra

The 47-year-old man from the Netherlands was relieving himself during a trip to a nature reserve in South Africa when he felt a burning sensation in his private parts.

The man only realised that he had been bitten by the cobra when he looked down and found that it had been hiding inside the bowl.

The unfortunate man was left waiting for nearly three hours before an emergency helicopter took him to the nearest hospital 220 miles away.

He was diagnosed with necrosis - better known as the 'flesh-eating disease' - and a serious amount of tissue in his penis had to be cut away.

The man returned to his native Holland where even more dead penis tissue had to be removed and surgeons were required to reconstruct his genitalia.

Fortunately, the man is said to have recovered both the full function and sensation in his penis in the year following the incident.
