That is according to new research, which shows that the eight-limbed molluscs reacted in a similar way to humans when they receive the so-called party drug.

The study has been conducted by a team at John Hopkins University in the US.

Dr Gul Dolen, the lead researcher in the study, noted that one of the octopuses responded to its dosage by doing backflips, while others simple became more open to touch.

MDMA is often used by party-goers to alter sensations in humans, and to increase levels of energy and pleasure.
