A miracle pill that improves memory by 10 per cent will go on sale in Britain next month.
GBL-Memory is made up of two plant extracts that can "significantly" improve recall in older people when combined and taken for a month.
Scientists think that the supplement could slow the progress of cognitive decline in an increasingly ageing population.
Dr. Richard Stratton, a GP and Assistant Medical Director of the Powys Health Board in Wales, said: "Showing improvement in animal and human memory is very encouraging.
"The interesting thing about this study is it's a botanical formulation. Safety issues are very unlikely and it offers people with memory issues something they can do to help the condition."
The pill is already available in Germany under the name Memocentrix and patients have reported positive impacts on their memory.
