Mariusz Stepien was left ''shaking with happiness'' after finding the haul - which included a complete horse harness and sword in the Scottish Borders.

Experts described the discovery as of ''national significance'' as it allows experts to see how horse harnesses were assembled for the first time.

Stepien explained how he was searching the field with friends as he found the relics.

He told BBC News: ''I thought 'I've never seen anything like this before' and felt from the very beginning that this might be something spectacular and I've just discovered a big part of Scottish history.

''I was over the moon, actually shaking with happiness.''
