Monkeys prefer listening to traffic sounds over jungle noises, according to a new study.

Primates at a zoo in Finland were given the option to listen to a playlist of traffic sounds, nature, falling rain as well as zen and dance music but it was found that they overwhelmingly liked the traffic sounds.

The monkeys groomed themselves and each other and also slept when the noise was piped into their enclosure - something they did not do for any of the other sounds - and the experts revealed that they were left surprised by the findings.

Dr. Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas, a researcher at Aalto University, said: "We thought they would enjoy more calming sounds, such as zen music, but actually they triggered the traffic sounds more."
