The 31-stone porker, named Dolly, took a rest in her pen in Essex on Wednesday (20.01.21) but was unable to get herself back up again, meaning fire crews needed to be called out to get the animal "back on her trotters".

Essex Fire and Rescue Service came to the pig's aid and revealed that she was in "distress" despite getting stuck in her natural habitat.

Crew manager Lewis Black told Sky News: "The pig had lied down in its sty but got stuck in the mud and could not get herself up.

"Crews worked in difficult conditions using strops - specialist straps for lifting - glide sheets and a fair bit of brute force to get her upright."

A fire service spokesman revealed that they were happy to let Dolly "hog the limelight" after the incident.
