Farmer Rachel Rivers gifted the sausages to Pewsey Fire Station where they were served up on a couple of disposable barbecues, after the hungry rescue-workers snatched 18 piglets and two sows from the blaze in Milton Lilbourne, Wiltshire, earlier this year.

The fire service wrote on Facebook: ''Exactly 6 months and 1 day since firefighters rescued 18 piglets from a farm in Milton we got to sample the fruits of our labour from that February night.

''Huge thank you to Rachel Rivers for dropping them off for us to sample. Highly recommended by Pewsey Fire stations crew and if anyone of our followers is having a bank holiday bbq this weekend then check out these sausages, they are fantastic.''

Many people were repulsed by the post, with one follower commenting: ''Jesus could she not just say thanks! What's wrong with a box of Roses? FFS what a horrible story to start the day.''
