Two lobsters were saved from being cooked after they were recognised as amongst the world's rarest.

A pair of orange Canadian lobsters were discovered on sale in Leicester, despite the odds of catching them being just one in 30 million.

Caterer Joseph Lee was confused as the lobsters were orange when they were still alive - as most only turn that colour once they have been cooked - before making the extraordinary discovery.

The orange colour comes from a rare genetic mutation and Lee made sure they were donated to an aquarium when he found out how unique they were.

Lee told The Sun newspaper: "The chances of having two are one in a billion.

"I couldn’t bear the thought that they would end up on someone’s plate."

The lobsters will now go on display at Birmingham Sea Life centre.
