A South African male called Klepetan travels over 8,000 miles every year to spend time with his feather flamed - and their avian love story has been going on for at least 16 years.

According to Travel + Leisure, the female stork Malena was injured after being shot by a hunter, and when Croatian janitor Stjepan Vokic was nursing her to health, he noticed the male suitor dropping by at the same time each year.

However, the pair's story - which is an anomalies in the stork world - could have reached an end as the stork which visited in March may not have been Klepetan.

Vokic's son Dario wrote on Facebook: ''The real Klepetan probably didn't arrive. The current stork is acting weird, he came for a meal and then he [left] for two days.''
