Ben Katzman swam laps for nearly four hours and for a distance that totalled 5.35 miles whilst cuffed. He was able to swim the length of the pool in Virginia 344 times in his bid to eclipse the existing record - which was set in 2019 at 3.41 miles.

Katzman said the swim was significant as he also broke a number of personal records, such as his longest swim and the most amount of time he has spent in the pool either with or without handcuffs.

He told The Free Lance-Star newspaper: "This crushed a lot of personal records. Other than that, I feel great. I’m ecstatic right now and so hyper."

Katzman added that photos and a full video have been submitted to Guinness for official recognition of the record attempt.
