Thousands of people have signed a petition calling on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to buy and eat the Mona Lisa.

The Change.org plea has gained the support of 3,459 people who want the billionaire to tuck into the iconic Leonardo Da Vinci painting.
The petition reads: "Nobody has eaten the Mona Lisa and we feel Jeff Bezos needs to take a stand and make this happen."
The unusual petition was launched last year but has recently started gaining traction online, with one person writing: "I feel like this is something society needs… Jeff, we need you to make this sacrifice for society."
The painting is currently owned by the French Government and is on display at the Louvre in Paris but Bezos is not averse to an extravagant purchase - having previously bought one of the fastest commercial jets in the world.
