HS2 - the multi-billion line first introduced by George Osborne - is set to fully open in 2033, with lines breaking off in the midlands city towards Leeds and Manchester.

However, the Metro reports that work on the line means 6,000 dead bodies will need to be dug up in Birmingham, which adds to the 60,000 already exhumed in London.

The removal of the bodies underneath Park Street Gardens will be one of the biggest archaeological digs of its kind in the city's history.

Every body will be reburied on consecrated ground, with the Church of England currently looking into suitable sites across the country.
