A customer was left furious when the £1.49 Jackson's Seeded Bloomer she had purchased from her local store in Cirencester, Gloucestershire was ''not as good'' as the same she had purchased just two months before.

The vexed woman returned the half-eaten 800g loaf with a note attached that read: ''Quantity of seeds has increased over the last 2 months. Character of bread has now changed. Not as good.''

An onlooker said: ''I don't think you could get a more middle class complaint if you tried. I went in to pick up a parcel at lunchtime and at first didn't take much notice.

''But after a few minutes I took a quick look at what was on the counter as I'm usually in and out after a few minutes.

''I've never seen anyone take such a firm view on seeds. The poor customer service worker had to hear the history of her bread buying.''
