A clip of the pair's altercation at the Oscars was viewed as astonishing 50 million times in the space of 24 hours.

The previous record-holder - a clip posted by Jimmy 'MrBeast' Donaldson in November 2021, got 43 million hits in the same timeframe.

During the ceremony on Sunday (27.03.22), Smith struck the comic after he made a joke about the hair loss suffered by his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The jawdropping moment soon went viral and sparked thousands of jokes and memes across social media.

A 90-second clip of the incident uploaded by The Guardian topped YouTube's trending list for more than 24 hours and has amassed hundreds of thousands of comments.

It has now beaten the American YouTuber MrBeast's record for accruing the most views for a non-music or trailer video in the space of one day.
