A woman claims she experienced the afterlife but described it as an ''eternal cosmic void''.

The woman, simply known as Barbara, tried to take her own life with an overdose of pills whilst suffering from depression in college, and said she experienced a chilling sense of ''unwelcoming'' nothing after she blacked out.

She wrote on the NDERF, a website which collects stories of near-death experiences: ''Hours passed. Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. It was dim, weird, and unwelcoming. A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. It was a foreboding and eternal cosmic void.''

But luckily, she survived to tell the tale after she woke up when her subconscious told her that ''anything would be better'' than what she experienced in the 'afterlife'.

She continued: ''I immediately decided that anything would be better than nothing. I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience.''
