Amy Goetz was reunited with the jewellery after it was discovered by John Porcella, who often combs the Jacksonville Beach with his metal detector.

Porcella found the class ring - from Collins High School in 2001 - and was able to identify that it belonged to Goetz, although he was unable to contact her via social media.

He eventually found her with help from the Gwinnett County Police department who informed her that the ring had been found.

Porcella told the Gwinnett Daily Post newspaper: ''I think it's amazing. It got washed out into the ocean and then the ocean kicked it back up on the beach. I just happened to be right there at the right moment at the right time.

''I worked that area of the beach many, many times and never found it, and then all of a sudden I did. It's interesting.''
