The anonymous woman brought a white floral appliqué dress and wrote: ''I have a wedding to attend and fell in love with a really nice dress but it's white. It was also on sale for $89 with another 20 percent off''.

However, her post sparked an outrage and people complained that it was ''rude'' to want to wear white at the wedding.

One Facebook user said: ''Look I am not super OCD about the white dress thing, my husband's nana wore white to my wedding, but I find all of this so questionable. It's pretty well accepted that this is rude.''

Another fumed: ''It's terribly rude to even consider wearing white to a wedding if it's not asked of the guests. White is for the bride. Girls are so weird about letting another woman shine when it's their day. Just pick a different colour. It isn't hard.''
