Women marry trees

Females in Mexico donned white dresses and hugged and kissed their new grooms in a mass ceremony, Metro.co.uk reports.

As they pledged their devotion, there was a bouquet thrown as well in-keeping with tradition.

Although the weddings are not legally binding, the women are attempting to draw attention to the problem of illegal cutting down of the trees in San Jacinto Amilpas, a small town in south-western Mexico.

Around a third of the land in the land in the area is covered by forest, with illegal logging mostly controlled by criminal groups.

The marriage stunt campaigners are hoping to raise the profile in order to protect the wood.
