UK women are far more image-conscious when on calls than their male counterparts according to research conducted by mission critical communications provider Cable&Wireless Worldwide.

The survey shows that 94 per cent of women in the workplace would put an extra effort into their personal appearance if taking part in a video conference or meeting,

compared to 86 per cent of men.

Nearly 68 per cent would wear smart business attire (Men 65 per cent), 73 per cent would tidy their hair (Men 58 per cent) and 37 per cent would smile more (Men 35 per cent).

Men, however, are almost twice as likely to try to look more serious!

In addition, when answering a phone call from a number they don’t recognise, 44 per cent of women would use a more formal phone voice compared to just 21 per cent of men, while almost 19 per cent would put a lot of effort into looking their best on a personal video phone call. Women also think it is very important to speak more clearly, even on a video call with over a third making that extra effort.

SURVEY BY CABLE&WIRELESS WORLDWIDE FINDS THAT:

  • 68 PER CENT WEAR SMART BUSINESS ATTIRE ON VIDEO CONFERENCE CALLS
  • OVER 43 PER CENT OF UK WOMEN STILL USE A FORMAL PHONE VOICE WHEN ANSWERING A CALL FROM A NUMBER THEY DON’T RECOGNISE
