When Odom was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital after an apparent drug and alcohol binge, 37-year-old Bryant was one of the first people to rush to his bedside. The two were teammates for seven years, winning two NBA championships together.

At the Lakers' practice on Tuesday, Bryant spoke to reporters about his friend's ordeal, stating that it had served as a reminder that there is more to life than basketball.

"It puts things in perspective a little bit more," Bryant said. "This is what we do. This is not who we are. Sometimes basketball can get in the way of life and in the way of living."

The Lakers shooting guard rejoiced over Odom's "remarkable" recovery: "He's a brother, above everything else. It's important to see him get back on his feet," said Bryant.

"It's amazing to see him doing so well. It truly is remarkable."
