The Olympian was jailed for five years last year after being convicted of the manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp but under South African law, he will be eligible for parole in two months, and if granted release he would serve the rest of his sentence at home.

However, the 28-year-old athlete's case is scheduled to go in front of South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal again in November, the court confirmed today (08.06.15), as prosecutors plan to challenge the decision to acquit him of murder.

The appeal hearing means Pistorius could be found guilty of murder and face a minimum of 15 years in prison, if a panel of judges at the Supreme Court of Appeal overturn the original verdict.

Prosecutors believe Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend on Valentine's Day 2013 (14.02.13) after an argument but the Olympian insists he mistook the model for an intruder when he shot her through a closed bathroom door.

Judge Thokozile Masipa ruled in December that prosecutors could appeal her verdict at the Supreme Court of Appeal.

An exact date for the hearing has not yet been set.
