Brown Jailed

Rapper Foxy Brown has been sent to jail for a year in New York for violating her probation terms. "I'm not going to give you any more chances," the judge told the rapper who had been held in jail since her last hearing in August. The singer, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was arrested on 14 August for allegedly assaulting a neighbour. In October she was put on probation for allegedly assaulting two nail salon workers in August 2004. Before the hearing Ms Marchand asked the judge for another chance, promising to behave better in future, "I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to change," she told the court.. She said she had made a lot of mistakes adding, "I realise that's not where I want to be. It's humbled me in ways I never imagined." The judge found that Ms Marchand had travelled outside New York without the court's permission and had moved her residence from New York to New Jersey without permission. Ms Marchand was also found to have missed anger management classes which she had been ordered to attend while on probation. Ms Marchand is accused of hitting her neighbour, Arlene Raymond, with a mobile phone, after the pair got into a argument over the music volume coming from the hip hop star's car stereo, New York police said.

The rapper was released on bail and charged with two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Her manager described the charges as false.

It is not the first time she has been accused of violating her probation. Earlier this year she was threatened with jail following an incident at a Florida hair salon, when police said she threw hair glue at an employee.

On that occasion, she was allowed to remain on probation after a Manhattan judge said she had kept appointments with her probation officer, passed drug tests and attended anger management classes.

Ms Marchand is likely to be eligible for parole in eight months, taking into account time off for good behaviour for her detention that began last month.

No mention was made in court on Friday about Ms Marchand expecting a baby. In last month's court appearance, defence lawyers said she was three months pregnant.

Foxy Brown's albums include Ill Na Na and Chyna Doll, which went to number one in the US in 1999.
