Rod Stewart has admitted he was left devastated when wife Rachel Hunter walked out on him - because he thought they would be together forever. But the ageing rocker says, although he felt "fooled" when the beautiful model left their nine-year marriage, he now believes it was his comeuppance. He told Britain's Q magazine: "It hurt because this woman was the one I was going to pledge the rest of my life to. I felt like I'd been fooled, but at the same time there was a sneaky feeling that the old man up there's got you back. I felt like I'd been fooled, but at the same time there was a sneaky feeling that the old man up there's got you back. He added: "I sometimes have guilt pangs about being in two relationships where children were involved that I walked out of. "Then Karma got me back because Rachel left me, so all is square now." However, despite his troubled past, the 59-year-old singer now looks set to marry girlfriend-of-four-years Penny - because at 33 he says she is the right age to tie the knot.
He said: "Women go through this stage between 20 and 30 when they are very volatile. I don't think anyone should marry before they are 30. Penny's very steadfast now. I am very lucky."
