The 41-year-old TV star has revealed that the 'Hello' hitmaker - who got ordained to marry him to Paul Drayton - dug into her own pocket to pay the costs of his special day, which was staged in Adele's back garden in Los Angeles in January.

Speaking to MailOnline, the funnyman shared: "It was a very special day. She was amazing. She got ordained.

"I said, 'Let me pay for something,' and she said: No, I'm paying.' She paid for the whole thing."

The 29-year-old singer has an estimated fortune of around £125 million, but she found herself sleeping on Alan's floor following the release of her breakthrough album '21' in 2011.

Although the record established Adele as a global superstar, she still opted to live quite modestly in the aftermath of her heartbreaking split from her ex-boyfriend.

Writing in his autobiography 'Alanatomy', the comedian explained: "Although [Adele] had purged her feelings in '21' she was still cut up about her ex and completely inconsolable."

At one stage, Adele became so socially withdrawn than Alan and his now-husband even feared she might have died.

He recalledd: "Paul said, 'Adele is upstairs, we better go and see if she's OK.'

"'I daren't. What if she's dead?' We looked at each other. Just out of interest, if the world's biggest star dies in your house, does the price go up or down? I'm asking for a friend."

Alan joked that he could turn Adele's plight into a money-spinning opportunity.

He quipped: "Would we get a plaque? Could we turn it into a museum? Would we have busloads of Adele fans tying wreaths to our knocker?"

Since then though, the London-born star has tied the knot with entrepreneur Simon Konecki, with whom she has a five-year-old son called Angelo.
