The '2002' singer - who is a black belt in the martial art discipline - wants to help out her famous friend's two-month-old daughter Lyra and give her lessons in self defence once she eventually starts school.

She told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "I feel like I could just teach her a little bit about being a hard nut.

“I said to him, ‘I can’t wait to teach her karate’. I’ve not met her yet.

"They’re being very socially distanced just because of health and stuff like that – taking a break to be a family, I guess.”

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old star expects the 'Shape of You' hitmaker to be coping well with fatherhood, and she suggested he won't have to "change too much".

She added: “He’s very warm and caring so I don’t think he’ll have to change too much.

"But I do think he’s going to sleep a lot less than he did, so we will see what that makes him turn out to be as a person.”

Ed announced the happy news that he had become a father for the first time in a sweet Instagram post in September.

He wrote: "Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you ...

"Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

"We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.

"We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x (sic)"

Lyra's first name is said to be inspired by her dad's favourite book series, 'His Dark Materials', penned by Philip Pullman.
