The 'Queen's Gambit' star enjoyed a 'Lord of the Rings' marathon over the Christmas period, prompting talk show host Stephen Colbert to ask if the actress' new platinum blonde look was paying homage to Galadriel, Cate Blanchett's character in the fantasy saga.

Anya admitted: "Honestly, I've been trying to look like an elf my entire life. That is my number one goal in life."

The 24-year-old actress admitted she turned to her favourite films to help her feel less lonely over Christmas.

Speaking to Stephen on 'The Late Show', she said: "For a lot of us, Christmas this year looked very different. I usually would spend Christmas in Argentina with my family, and this year I was in London pretty much by myself.

"I thought, okay, you have to find a way to bring something positive to this. What's a wonderful tradition that you really enjoy? The answer is obviously, 'Lord of the Rings'.

"Theatrical cut for the first one, extended cut for 'Two Towers' because you know, I love two towers. 'Return of the King, theatrical cut because the person I was with fell asleep, which is sacrilege."

The 'Witch' star previously revealed she learned to speak English when she moved to the UK from Argentina at the age of six thanks to J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' novels.

She said: “"I wanted to go home, and in my six, seven-year-old mentality I thought my parents would have to take me back if I didn’t speak the language.

"My uncle would sit me down with the Harry Potter books, so all my language when I was young was quite precocious because I was learning from these books."

She then jokingly added: "I was very well versed in spells from a very young age."
