The 'Formation' hitmaker scooped the accolade for her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, 'Savage', and the win marked her 27th Grammy award, tying her with Alison Krauss for the most prizes won at the ceremony by a female artist.

Appearing on stage next to Megan, Beyonce appeared stunned and mouthed "wow" and "oh my God" as host Trevor Noah highlighted the significance of the honour.

He said: "Right now, Grammy history has been made because with that award, Beyonce has just tied the all time record for most Grammy wins ever, by a female artist, and by any singer, male or female, so congratulations Queen B. What an achievement."

During their acceptance speeches, the two singers heaped praise on one another, with Megan admitting it had always been a dream for her to perform with Beyonce.

She emotionally said: “I definitely want to say thank you to Beyoncé.

If you know me, you have to know that, ever since I was little, I was like, ‘You know what? One day, I’m gonna grow up and I’m gonna be like the rap Beyoncé.’ That was definitely my goal.

“And I remember I went to the rodeo for the first time and I saw Destiny’s Child perform, and I was like, ‘Ues, I’m ’bout to go hard, I love her work ethic, I love the way she is, I love the way she carries herself.’ And my mama would always be like, ‘Megan, what would Beyoncé do?’ And I’m always like, ‘you know what? What would Beyoncé do, but make it a little ratchet.'”

Returning the compliments, her collaborator said: “I just want to quickly give my love to Megan. I have so much respect for you and I’m honoured that you asked me to be a part of this song.”

The pair accepted the award just minutes after Megan came off stage from a raunchy performance with Cardi B of their hit 'WAP', as well as renditions of her own tracks 'Body' and 'Savage', though she wasn't joined by Beyonce for the latter.
