The 19-year-old singer admitted she hadn't expected to be accepting the night's biggest honour from Sir Ringo Starr for her 'Everything I Wanted' because she felt her fellow nominee should have taken it for her collaboration with Beyonce, 'Savage'.

She said: "I'm embarrassed. Megan, girl, I was going to write a speech about how you deserves this, but then I was like, 'There's no way they're going to choose me. You deserve this.

"This is really embarrassing for me. I was like, 'It's hers'. You deserve this.

" You had a year I think was untoppable, you are a queen, I want to cry thinking about how much I love you.

"You're so beautiful, you're so talented, you deserve everything in the world. I think about you constantly, I root for you always. You deserve it, honestly. Genuinely, this goes to her. Can we cheer for Megan Thee Stallion please."

After the audience at the socially-distanced Los Angeles ceremony applauded for Megan, Billie - who also took the award ahead of Beyonce ('Black Parade'), Black Pumas ('Colors), DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch ('Rockstar'), Doja Cat ('Say So'), Dua Lipa ('Don't Start Now'), and Post Malone ('Circles') - gave out her own thanks.

Standing alongside her brother and collaborator, Finneas O'Connell, she said: "But thank you also, I really do appreciate this.

"Thank you to the Academy, thank you to Ringo, I love you, I love my team, thank you for seeing me, thank you to my brother Finneas, and yeah, thanks for doing this. I love you."
