Blake Shelton was scared he was going to lose fiance Gwen Stefani's engagement ring which he hid in a compartment on the door of his truck.

The 44-year-old country star's proposal to the 'Let Me Reintroduce Myself' singer - who he popped the question to in October, after five years of dating - could have gone very differently if he had lost the ring in the precarious place inside his truck.

He told 'The Bobby Bones Show': “To be honest with you — and this is scary — I had the ring in the compartment on my door of my truck for about a week.

“I don’t know about you, but stuff falls out of that damn thing on my truck all the time. [When I was] digging in there looking for a flashlight or change, I kept thinking, ‘Man, somebody’s gonna hit the jackpot whenever I drop this thing out of my truck.'

“I wanted to keep it there all the time because I didn’t know when I would have the exact, right moment. But thank God, I didn’t lose the ring.”

Blake recently revealed that Gwen almost ruined their engagement news by showing off the dazzling diamond early.

The 'Happy Anywhere' singer explained that the sweet Instagram post confirming the news was almost ruined, because the 'Hollaback Girl' hitmaker couldn’t stop showing off her ring.

Blake explained the situation whilst appearing on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, after the show host complained that Gwen announced her engagement the day after she’d appeared on the show in October, rather than using the programme for the big news.

Seth said: “I have a small gripe, which is, the very next day, she basically announced on Instagram that you guys have been engaged. That’s the kind of content we could have really had a lot of fun with.”

And the singer explained she was already wearing the ring when she went on the show, adding: “She kept, like, doing this with her hand [lifting it to her face]. And you know, [she was] wondering if people would figure out that she was wearing an engagement ring.”

Luckily, the 51-year-old singer wore plenty of other jewellery, so no-one suspected a thing.

He said: “I told her, I said, ‘You know you wear more jewellery than Mr. T. so I don’t think anybody is gonna pick up on that, Gwen.’ And they didn’t. You could’ve figure it out. She was giving you hints!”

Seth then blamed virtual interviews for his lack of awareness, as his show has mostly been taking place over Zoom in recent months as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “It’s very hard over Zoom because you never know. I don’t want to stare. You end up looking in the camera more than you do at the guests. So, it was true. It was right in front of me and I missed it.”
