The 'Bodak Yellow' hitmaker paid tribute to three-month-old Kulture - who she has with husband Offset - as she picked up the prize for Favorite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop at the ceremony on Tuesday (09.10.18) and admitted the tot had driven her to keep going with her career after becoming a parent.

Cardi - who admitted she was "nervous" as she took to the stage at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater amid a standing ovation - said: "Thank you so much. Thank you to all my fans, thank you to my team thank you to my publicist, thank you to Atlantic ... thank you to my glam squad, thank you family, thank you Jesus!"

"I really wanna thank my daughter, and not just because she's my daughter.

"When I was pregnant, I was just so influenced to be like, yo I got to do this. I gotta show people wrong. I gotta prove people wrong, 'cause they said I wasn't gonna make it, after I had the baby."

The 25-year-old star - who tied with Drake to have the most nominations at the event with eight - also scooped the awards for Favorite Song - Rap/Hip-Hop for 'Bodak Yellow' and her collaboration with Bruno Mars, 'Finesse', was named Favorite Song - Soul/R&B.

Cardi also performed her hit 'I Like It' with Bad Bunny and J. Balvin at the event, backed by a troupe of dancers.

The 'Be Careful' star recently pulled out of supporting Bruno Mars on tour because she admitted she wasn't ready to go on the road so soon after having a baby.

She said at the time: "I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing. Not only am I just not ready physically, I'm not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it's not healthy for her to be on the road."

However, despite her decision not to go on tour, Cardi has wasted no time throwing herself back into work as she's determined to make money for her baby.
