The 'You're So Vain' hitmaker was just 20 when she and her older sibling Lucy, then 22, met the James Bond star - who was married to Diane Cliento - on a boat going from England to New York in 1965 and agreed to meet them for a drink after they sent a note saying they were "not ordinary fans" and explaining their father was the founder of publishing house Simon & Schuster.

Describing the actor, then 35, as "far handsomer in person", Carly claimed in her new memoir 'Boys in the Trees' that the Scottish star regaled them with stories, including a recent experience taking hallucinogenic drug LSD, and invited them to join him in his cabin for a drink the following evening.

Once there, he proposed a "menage a trois" - or, as their friends described it, a "Simon sisters sandwich" - and after a few minutes when the siblings realised what he had asked, they declined.

However, the Nobody Does It Better' hitmaker's sister then met up with Sean the following evening alone and failed to return to their cabin until 5.15am.

Carly then used the betrayal as an excuse to break up their musical act when they arrived in New York.
