The 'Jesus, Take The Wheel' singer broke down in tears at the shame of having ruined her perfect driving record.

Carrie, 34, tweeted: "Well, it happened today. After 18 years, I can no longer say I've never been pulled over for speeding. I feel so ashamed! I may or may not have cried in my car after the cop let me go. #RuleFollower #GrannyDriver #ImSorry (sic)"

The country singer's bad day follows news that she recovering well from surgery after having a metal plate fitted in her wrist.

The 'Before He Cheats' hitmaker injured herself badly when she fell on some steps at her home back in November, breaking her wrist and requiring 50 stitches to her face.

But Carrie told her Instagram followers, alongside a picture of her X-ray: "Last check up on the old wrist this morning!! Thanks, Dr. Wurth and my PT angel, Renee, a.k.a. "Bulldog" for fixing me up!!! I'm good to go! (sic)"

At the time, Carrie's representative revealed the singer has broken her wrist after a "hard fall" and was recuperating at home with her husband, Mike Fisher, by her side.

They said in a statement: "On Friday night, Carrie Underwood took a hard fall on some steps outside her home. While there were no life-threatening injuries, she was taken to the hospital to be treated. She sustained multiple injuries including a broken wrist and some cuts and abrasions from the fall.

"Fisher was able to make it back into town that night to be with her and she was released from the hospital. Her recovery will take some time and she appreciates all prayers and well wishes."

A few days later Carrie - who has two-year-old son Isaiah with her spouse - reassured her fans that she is "doing great" after having surgery on her wrist.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: "I just wanted let everyone know that I'm doing great. Had surgery on my wrist yesterday & all went well ... even though I'll be setting off airport metal detectors from now on ... I'm so thankful for the doctors, nurses, family & friends who've been taking such great care of me. (sic)"

Carrie also revealed she had injured her face too.

She said: "In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in."
