The 'Cool for the Summer' hitmaker was a teenager when she saw the 1999 film, in which Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) teaches Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair) share a kiss, and admits it informed her own sexuality as she thought she really wanted to try a kiss like that, eventually doing so at 17.

She said: "It was definitely when I was young and definitely should not have been watching 'Cruel Intentions' but did, and it was that scene where they made out on the park lawn. I was just like, ‘Oh wait a minute, I really like that, I want to try it.' And then when I was 17 I did get down with that."

And the 28-year-old singer has also penned songs about women too.

Speaking at Facebook's Coming Out 2020 event on Friday (09.10.20), she added: "There were times I wrote songs about girls that my fans thought I wrote about guys. I'm surprised that some of them didn't figure out that some of the songs were for certain people. I was sharing it with the world, yet I wasn't being completely obvious with what I was talking about. Music was my safe space."

Meanwhile, Demi - who recently ended her engagement to Max Ehrich - previously admitted she’s “still figuring” her sexuality out, praising her "supportive" parents.

The ‘Anyone’ singer said of her parents Dianna and Patrick: "I’m still figuring [my sexuality] out. I didn’t officially tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman until 2017. It was actually emotional, but really beautiful. After everything was done, I was like shaking and crying.

"I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive."
