The 'Miami Vice' star has met the Coldplay singer and has heaped praise on his daughter's beau's talents, and admitted he knew right away that he will be "good" for the 'Fifty Shades Freed' actress.

Don told The Sun newspaper: "He's a lovely guy. I've met him and you want your kids happy, no matter what shape it takes.

"That's the goal, that's the key. He's a very talented and gifted musician. I've seen them in a concert at a small venue called the Troubadour in Los Angeles when they were first coming out and that was a memorable moment.

"I knew right then he'd be good for her. I said 'Oh you know, that man has got something going on'."

The 68-year-old actor's comments also confirm for the first time that Dakota, 28, and Chris, 40, are officially dating. The couple were first linked in October last year.

Don - who fathered Dakota with ex-wife actress Melanie Griffith - also revealed he has promised to never watch his daughter in the racy 'Fifty Shades' movies.

He said: "I've never seen even a frame of any of them, I promised her I wouldn't see them."

Now Chris has been introduced to Dakota's family, it has recently been reported he would also like her to meet his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

Gwyneth, 45, has revealed she sees her former spouse as a brother-like figure, because they've remained close since their "conscious uncoupling" in 2014 after 13 years of marriage.

Chris and Gwyneth are parents to daughter Apple, 13, and son Moses, 11.

Since splitting from Chris, the 'Iron Man' actress has struck up a romance with 46-year-old writer and producer Brad Falchuk, to whom she is now engaged.

Chris was previously linked to actresses Anabelle Wallis and Jennifer Lawrence.
