Netflix has decided to pull the fourth and final season of the female wrestling series inspired by the 1980s US TV show 'Gorgeous Ladies Of Female Wrestling', which had already begun filming when the pandemic hit in March.

The cast had wrapped on one episode of the new series before it was axed.

‘GLOW’ co-creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch told Deadline: “COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of ‘GLOW’. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of s***** things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.”

They added: “We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job.”

Alison Brie - who played Ruth Wilder aka Zoya the Destroya - reacted to the news admitted the show changed her life “forever”.

She tweeted: “Going to miss this… Forever grateful to my GLOW family for changing my life forever. #glownetflix.”

Marc Maron - who portrayed washed-up director Sam Sylvia - wrote: “No more GLOW. Sorry. Stinks.”

While Rich Sommer admitted he was “beyond lucky” to work alongside Betty Gilpin as husband and wife Mark and Debbie Eagan in a touching tribute to his co-star.

He added to his own page on the micro-blogging site: “So glad to have been a tiny part of this show.

I will play Betty Gilpin’s husband or ex-husband or mail carrier or anything, anytime anyone ever asks me to. She’s one of my favorite scene partners of all time, and I was beyond lucky to get to stand toe-to-toe with her.”

Betty received her third Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Debbie in July.
