James Corden at Into The Woods photo call

James Corden has revealed that he felt like he was ‘back at school’ and trying to hang out with the cool guys when he met Johnny Depp on the set of Into The Woods.

Corden and Depp star for the first time in the Rob Marshall directed musical, which is based on the hit Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim. The film brings together some of the most famous fairytale characters and sees Corden play Mr Baker, while Depp is on board as wolf.

And Corden admits that while he thought Depp was incredibly ’cool’ he doesn’t think he will be trying to copy his dress sense any time soon.

Speaking at a press conference in London for the film, Corden said: "Johnny's really cool. That was my overwhelming feeling and I only did like half a day with him. It was like I was back at school trying to hang out with the cool guys. It was just hoping a bit of it (his coolness) would land on you for like an hour because, I don't know, it's just like, 'Yeah, cool man, cool.' "

"I don't wear bangles and necklaces and stuff and if I did I'd look stupid but it all just works with him, it all just ties up. I was pleased just to be in his orbit for an afternoon."

Into The Woods brings together an all-star cast as Corden and Depp are joined by Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine, while Marshall is back in the director’s chair for the first time since Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

This is the first time that we have seen Corden back on the big screen since he enjoyed success as Paul Potts in the lead role of One Chance. However, he has been back on the small screen over Christmas with The Wrong Mans and Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot.

While Corden is set to head to America to take over the hosting job of The Late Late Show - which stars in March - he will be back on the big screen later this year with Kill Your Friends and The Lady in the Van.

Into The Woods is released 9th January.
